Don McAllister

Although born in Orlando, William D. ''Don'' McAllister graduated from Lakeland High School in 1942 and became an announcer with local NBC affiliate WLAK. He served in the Marine Corps as a radio instructor from 1943 to 1944, and then returned to his hometown to join WDBO as an announcer. When WDBO-TV went on the air in 1954, he was hired as its sports director and hosted a show called “Hunting and Fishing With Don” (1954-1972) with sidekicks Walter Hudson and Tom Benmark.

In 1958, he founded an advertising firm that became known as McAllister-Barker Associates. In the 80’s, he was counsel to A. Duda and Sons in Oviedo and a partner in Communications Counselors Inc., an Orlando company that trained company spokespersons.

Don passed away in 1995 at the age of 70.
