Before entering the radio business, Bruce attended Kent State (1974-1977), where he played college sports, and then went on to work as a record promoter for CBS/Epic Records. In 1979 he began his radio career in sales in Atlanta and quickly moved to a sales manager's post in Chattanooga in 1980.

His success there led to a vice president’s position with Jacksonville’s WAPE in 1983 and then president of Global Broadcasting, owner and operatorof Miami’s WLQY. In 1987, he formed Tampa Bay-based Genesis Communications, and today (2012) serves as its president and CEO.

Tampa Bay Genesis stations include AM-820 WWBA, AM-1040 WHBO, and AM-1470 WMGG. The three Orlando and Florida east coast area stations are Titusville’s AM-1060 WIXC, Kissimmee’s AM-1080 WHOO, and Pine Castle/Sky Lake’s AM-1190 WAMT.
