Scott Hooker

Scott’s beginnings in the radio business go back to Michigan in the 1980’s. While an intern at classic rock WCSX in Detroit, he attended Specs Howard School of Broadcasting. Following graduation in 1989, he began his radio career with WTIQ, a small station in the upper peninsula of Michigan where he learned production, sales, programming and news writing. Once when he was program director, the station was extremely short-staffed and he actually pulled three shifts in a row, changing his air name throughout the day. He also did overnights and news for two and a half years at 100,000 watt WMKC, a country station in St. Ignace, Michigan.

In 1993, he moved to Florida and joined the staff of WHNR in Winter Haven as copywriter and afternoon air personality. The station was sold the following year (he and the other employees were all fired “by fax”) so he took a series of, as he puts it, “grown-up jobs” but still managed to keep a hand in radio, working weekends at WWBF in Bartow. In 2000 he joined Lakeland’s 97 Country WPCV on a part-time basis. Five years later, he went full time doing overnights and hosting Sunday night’s country oldies “Classics Show.” Due to budget cuts in January of 2009, his position was eliminated and he and his family moved to Houston, Texas.
In 2015, after some time in Texas and the passing of his wife, his biggest fan, Scott moved back to Central Florida and today (2016) works as the crematory manager for a local funeral home.
