Eric Michaels
Eric received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from the University of Illinois, and landed his first professional radio gig in 1982 at WRTL AM/FM in Rantoul, Illinois. Two years later he went from part-time work to full-time morning show host on WKIO in Champaign, Illinois. Things got even better in 1990 when he was promoted to production director and programming administrator, and moved to mid-days.
By the mid 90’s, Central Florida had caught Eric’s eye and he moved to the Orlando area, working at Walt Disney World’s Pleasure Island as a performer and keeping his foot in radio hosting the "Saturday Night Cruise" on Kissimmee’s WOTS. In 1998, he joined Lakeland’s Hall Communications as a part-time announcer for 97 Country WPCV.
The following year, he accepted a full time mid-day position on sister station WWRZ 98.3 FM. Then, in 2000, he was appointed promotions director for the four-station Hall cluster (WONN, WPCV, WLKF and WWRZ). After two hectic years heading up the promotions department and pulling a daily four-hour air shift, plus production, he relinquished the promotions position to concentrate on his on-air duties. He also returned to Disney’s Pleasure Island part-time and joined an Orlando improv comedy troop.
When Jim Maloy, WWRZ’s longtime afternoon personality, retired in late 2003, Eric moved from mid-days to afternoons and then, three years later, to mornings. In early 2020, he was promoted to program director for the station.
