Woody was only 15 years old when he began his radio career at WJCM in Sebring. After graduating from high school and spending four years in the Navy he wound up in Lakeland in 1960 going to college at Florida Southern and working as a deejay at Top 40 WYSE. He left in 1962 for WINQ in Tampa and then on to Baltimore and WISZ for three years as a country music deejay.

In 1966 Woody returned to Sebring as GM of WSEB before heading to Cypress Gardens’ WGTO a year later. In 1971 he was in Lakeland as News Director at WLAK, then Program Director at WONN in 1972 and 1973. He moved into the sales end of the business in 1975 and rejoined WGTO, serving as Sales Manager there from 1980 to 1984. He also spent a year in Ft. Pierce as GM of WAVW and nine years as a deejay and newsman for WDBO in Orlando from 1988 to 1997. In 1998 he joined the sales team at Hall Communications’ four-station cluster in Lakeland and began hosting WPCV’s Sunday night Country Classics Show in 2001.

Woody was a graduate of Polk Community College and the University of Central Florida with a degree in political science and had held a First Class Radio Broadcast License since 1959. He lost his bout with cancer and passed away on March 1, 2006.
