Joe was morning man “Johnny Reb” at WWAB after the station flipped from MOR to country in 1965. He also owned and operated the Early Bird Record Shop in downtown Lakeland which he opened each morning after his air shift. After WWAB changed owners and switched to an R&B format in the mid 70’s, he sold his downtown record store and left radio to manage a motel/restaurant operation on Highway 27 between Haines City and Lake Wales.
In the early 80’s, both Joe and his wife, who worked with him, were killed in a robbery attempt at the motel.
