Chapman S. Root

Chapman S. Root was a former chairman of Associated Coca-Cola Bottlers, at the time, the country's largest Coca-Cola bottler. It was an inheritance from his grandfather, the man who designed and patented the wasp waist Coca-Cola bottle in the early 1900's.

Young Chapman took control of Associated in 1951 and ran it until selling his controlling interest to the Coca-Cola Company in 1982. In 1966, he formed the Root Company to handle his expanding financial holdings, which included Daytona Beach’s Hilton Hotel and radio stations WNDB AM-1150 and 94.5 WDNJ-FM (which became WWLV). From 1983 to 1995, the company’s communications arm also owned broadcasting properties in Lakeland – FM 94.1 WVFM (which became WEZY in 1988) and AM-1430 WLKF.

Chapman Shaw Root lived in Ormond Beach and passed away in Atlanta on July 4, 1990 at the age of 65.
