Lee Garen

Chicago native Lee Garen began his broadcasting career at WMMB in Melbourne and was the Mutual Radio Network’s “Voice at the Cape,” covering the early years of the space industry. He was there January 27, 1967 covering the fire that killed Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee in the Apollo Command Module during a preflight test at Cape Canaveral.

Lee spent 12 years as a popular talk show host on both radio and television in South Florida and was selected as one of twelve top news reporters in the state by the Associated Press six years in a row, winning first place twice in news coverage for his reports on the Republican Convention in Miami Beach and the race riots in Ft. Lauderdale.

From 1983 to 1987 Lee worked at WLKF in Lakeland doing 6-10 A.M. He also spent time at WGUL in New Port Richey and at Paxson Communications’ WWNZ “News Radio 740” in Orlando from 1993 to 1995 before moving to Atlanta to run the morning show at WGKA.

Today (2005) Lee is a full time member of the CNN Radio Network staff and has been an overnight news anchor and editor since 2002. He and his wife, Linda, have three children and one granddaughter.
