Mark’s eight-year radio career began in 1979 while he was a 17-year old junior at Kathleen High School in Lakeland. His first job was running tapes at Lakeland’s WQPD on Sunday mornings and producing a Christian talk show. After a few months he was promoted to other weekend shifts and general fill-in work.
Following graduation in 1981, Mark enrolled at the University of Florida but continued doing radio work over the summer months at Lakeland FM station WVFM. After graduating in 1985 with a BA in Liberal Arts, he joined the Mutual Radio Network in Washington, D.C. as a Station Clearance Rep for The Larry King Show. His network success paved the way for later accomplishments in sales management at a number of media outlets including WTOP in Washington, D.C., WBZ in Boston, and KOAI in Dallas.
In November 1992, Mark decided to put his knowledge of media and sales to work for Merrill Lynch as a financial consultant/media equity specialist for corporate accounts and high net-worth individuals and promoted himself by hosting investment programs on local radio stations and conducting numerous seminars. After close to three years, he left to become the Financial Services Manager for a local internet company, Broadcast.com, a company which was later purchased by Yahoo for 5.7 billion dollars.
Mark also has a continued interest in writing. While National Sales Manager for KOAI, Broadcasting magazine published his full-page article entitled “How to Increase Your National Radio Business” and in July 1996 he wrote a groundbreaking feature article for Money magazine entitled “Moneymaking Lessons” which led to an appearance on CNBC. Mark authored the book, Tricks of the Trade (Park Avenue Press) in 1998 which was a top selection in the Money Book-of-the-Month Club, and in 2000 published Robbing You Blind (Harper Collins), which tackled issues that concern average investors. He has contributed stories for the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, US News World Report and the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and has appeared on a variety of network radio and television programs.
Today (2006) Mark owns Digital Communications, a media consulting firm, and lives outside Los Angeles.
