WVFM - Chapman S. Root

In 1982, Chapman S. Root sold his controlling interest in Associated Coca Cola
Bottlers (at one time the country's largest Coca Cola bottler) and formed The Root Company
to handle his expanding financial holdings, which included the Hilton Hotel in Daytona Beach, FL and
radio stations WNDB-AM and WDNJ-FM there. From 1983 to 1995, his interests also included two
Lakeland radio stations, WVFM (which became WEZY-FM in 1988)  and WLKF-AM. Root
lived in Ormond Beach and passed away in 1990 while in Atlanta at the age of 65.
