Rich Halten

Hanging around WONN every day finally paid off for Lakeland High Schooler Rich Halten when he landed a job working afternoon drive at the station in 1960. He was Rich On the Radio and worked part-time there through 1964. He also put in some summer vacation hours at sister station WSLC in Clermont in 1963.

Rich left Lakeland and WONN in 1964 for Florida State University in Tallahassee where he continued in radio pretty much full time at WTAL while also trying to find some hours in the day for his college classes. During the Viet Nam conflict, Rich was fortunate to be able to work with the American Forces Radio and TV Service in Europe where he did sports. Following his military obligation, it was back to Tallahassee to finish college, and again to WTAL as Program Director. He later joined the staff at the University television station, WFSU-TV.

With college behind him, Rich left radio for a twenty-five year career in the field of advertising, including thirteen years in Atlanta as a partner in an ad agency.

Returning to his radio roots in 2002, Rich is now (2005) at WCNN “680-The Fan” in Atlanta where he is producer for an evening sports talk show.
