Clay Smith

Clay Smith, the grandson of station founder W.A. Smith, was apparently cut from the same mold as his popular dad, Ercelle, because neither had a desire to forge a career in radio broadcasting.

However, Clay did come to work at WPLA after graduating from high school, working in the sales department, calling on clients around the area, and occasionally filling in for his dad on the station’s talk show, This ‘n That. Once again, like his dad, his real love was for the outdoors in general and farming in particular. After a few years at the station, Clay left to pursue that love of farming which was what he really wanted to do all along.

Today, he also owns his own business, Plant City Maintenance. Clay and his wife, Patricia, have three children, and live in the Springhead area near the family home place.
