Doris Smith

Doris, the wife of WPLA co-owner Ercelle Smith, was happy being a stay-at-home mom until a part-time position opened up doing traffic for the radio station in 1964. She later came on board full-time to head up the bookkeeping and billing department by the early 1970’s and remained with the station until shortly before it was sold in 1987.

After Ercelle passed away in April of 2002, the Athens, Alabama native married local physician Dr. A.J. Peacock, who had recently lost his wife.

Doris continued to live in Plant City until her death in January 2019 at the age of 83.
