Steve Smith

Steve graduated from the University of Florida with a major in advertising in 1976 and came to work in the sales department at WPLA shortly thereafter. However, he spent most of the time at the station in news when News Director Jack Rushing fell ill. Steve also assisted Dick Shiflett with play-by-play coverage of the Plant City High School basketball and football games.

In 1977, he left to begin what became a ten-year association with Sunshine State Federal Savings & Loan in Plant City. Steve maintained his ties with WPLA by continuing his work with Dick Shiflett on the high school games each fall and spring until the station was sold in the late 1980’s.

Today, Steve owns his own video production business, Skybeck Production Services  (skybeck@tampabay.rr.com). He and his wife, Peggy, live in Plant City and have two children, Skyler and Becca.
